Walking together in Marriage

Marriage is a calculated legally contracted union between a man and a woman. It is the first institution
mentioned in the bible in Genesis chapter 1:18-25. This graphic description is a vivid testimony that
marriage is a partnership and an ordained institution by God to be enjoyed and not endured.
Undauntedly, husbands, and wives are obviously different because of their different backgrounds, but
God intended these differences to complement each other. Joel 2:13 presents God as a model of grace. He
loves us despite our idiosyncrasies. He also expects husband and wife to extend such grace to each other
for the purpose of harmony.
Walking together in marriage is teamwork. Team members who cannot agree on the game plan will
never win the game. In the same vein, a husband and wife who cannot agree on decisions can never
produce a winning marriage. A very familiar verse in the Bible, Amos 3:3 asked a simple question for us
to digest; Can two walk together without agreeing on the direction? The answer is NO. Except both of
them agree. Walking together requires coordinated efforts by both parties for a harmonious marriage.
Undoubtedly, reaching an agreement in decision-making is a process. Husband or wife has personal feelings
or thoughts on every matter which do not always match. Their duties, therefore, are to look for common
ground and compromise to reach an agreement. (mutual concession) Despite our different perspectives, we
must ensure and endeavor to make concessions, blend our ideas and be willing to give and change.
Without this, enduring peace and harmony will be far from our marriages. Each partner must look for
the benefit and seek the welfare of each other.
In conclusion, for any marriage not to be a trap, we must invite godly ideas into it. (Prov8:22) The
absence of God in our marriage results in evil decisions. When God is absolved into our marriages, love
language will become predominant and heard daily by our children, neighbors, and even heaven.
MAY GOD BLESS OUR MARRIAGE IN JESUS NAME. AMEN.
